1960s Collection Guidelines

There are TWO GENERAL LOCATIONS for the 1960s collection:

1. Special Collections

2. The regular stacks/General annex location

Regular Stacks/General annex: Sixties collection books will come with a flag in them. Unless the flag has explicit directions that state it is for Special Collections, put the 962 __ [Binghamton University Libraries Center for Study of the 1960s] note in the record, and set the location according to call number (i.e., MAIN, FINE ARTS, the ANNEX, etc.). The bib record DOES NOT get a 690. DO NOT keep the dust jacket on the book, even if the flag has "Keep all dust jackets" highlighted. ONLY KEEP THE DUST JACKETS IF THE FLAG EXPLICITLY SAYS THE ITEM IS FOR SPECIAL COLLECTIONS.

Special Collections: If the book has a flag stating it goes to Special Collection, put the same 962 __ note as above. The location code should be either BINSP R60S, BINSP R60SO, or BINSP R60SP (check the Alma Location Codes list -- the map case location code is for double oversized items). If the book is a McKiernan book AND part of the 60s collection AND going to Special Collectionsyou should end up with 2 notes in each record, the gift note for McKiernan and the 962 series note for the 1960s collection. The location code should then be BINSP R60SM, for SPECIAL COLLECTIONS
CENTER FOR THE STUDY OF THE 1960s (MCKIERNAN) -- check the Location Codes list. Note that the bib record still DOES NOT get a 690.
