What is the Sustainability Hub Interest Group?
The Sustainability Hub Interest Group holds biweekly meetings for Binghamton University students interested in sustainability! Each semester we establish specific sustainability goals, give group updates, and host guest speakers! Some of our current goals are listed below:
- Allowing students to have a voice in sustainability and making resources available to all
- Improving waste management and making composting more accessible to students
- Work with dining services to increase plant-based options and reduce environmental impacts
In the Fall 2022 semester, over 10 different student groups were represented in the Sustainability Hub Interest Group! Click on their logos below to learn more about the organizations on our Student Groups page!

Accomplishments
In 2021, the Sustainability Hub Interest Group helped to bring OZZI containers back to on-campus dining! The Student Culinary Council (SCC) and other student groups continue to educate the University about how to use OZZI containers and why its better for the planet than single-use take out containers!
In Spring 2023, the Sustainability Hub Interest Group organized the first Sustainability Fest, a tabling event to connect students to sustainability focused groups and resources! Many on-campus programs, student groups, local off-campus organizations tabled at this event!
In Spring 2023, the Sustainability Hub Interest Group worked with the Binghamton SA and OCCT to charter buses to the Broome County Farmers Market for three Saturdays in April! Thank you to the Food Co-op/SELF, Student Culinary Council, Zero Hour Bing, and Binghamton Policy Project for chartering these buses!

In Spring 2023, members of the Sustainability Hub Interest Group visited Big Yield Growers, a local indoor vertical farm! On April 28th, Big Yield Growers were hosted on campus by the Sustainability Hub, Plant Based Bing, the Food Co-op, Zero Hour Bing, and Citizens Climate Lobby for a Growing Workshop! Participants received free pots, soil, and plants to grow on their own, and plenty of great advice from the growers!
