Student Groups

This page highlights many student groups on campus that are focused on sustainability! Read about each one and how to get involved now!

Binghamton University Audubon Society

This Chapter of the Audubon Society, or the Bird Club, hosts bird walks in the Nature Preserve on campus on Saturday mornings and even some evenings! We organize trips off campus, such as to Montezuma Wildlife Refuge or the Cornell Lab of Ornithology! Everyone is encouraged to join as our group is happy to share knowledge and binoculars with experienced birders or anyone who wants to learn!

Binghamton University Bees

We are a student-run organization that focuses on outreach and education on our pollinators! We bee-lieve that pollinators are an essential aspect of our environment and we maintain a honey bee hive on campus, build bee boxes for native pollinators, and maintain the campus as a Bee Campus USA. We usually meet biweekly with a handful of hive visits each semester, weather permitting :)

Citizen's Climate Lobby

Citizens' Climate Lobby (CCL) is an organization that empowers students to lobby elected officials for environmental legislation. At Binghamton, we have held lobby meetings with the offices of Representative Claudia Tenney and Senator Chuck Schumer in addition to holding climate events on campus. At meetings, students learn how to lobby politicians and work on new initiatives to become active in climate legislation.

Evolution Club

We believe evolution applies to all aspects of life, not just genetics or Darwinism, which is why our meetings are based around all sorts of topics. We’ve had collabs with other clubs such as Cheese Club, Zero Hour, and IDEAS. At our invasive species event, people picked Autumn Olive berries in the Nature Preserve while learning about its history, then each member was able to take home a jar of fresh jam.

We source local and organic food to provide healthy vegan alternatives to other limited campus choices, as well as many allergen friendly foods! We also sell coffees, teas, kombucha, pantry snacks, and more. The Co-Op also specializes in sustainability as we host clothing swaps and collaborate with other environmental organizations.

Since 1973, NYPIRG has played a key role in fighting for more than 120 public interest laws and executive orders. Our five campaigns focus on Environmental Protection, Higher Education, Consumer Protection, Hunger and Homelessness, and Civic Engagement. Plant Based Binghamton

We are a club dedicated to providing education and resources to vegans and students interested in plant-based lifestyles. We seek to educate the campus about the ethical and environmental impact of animal agriculture while promoting local plant-based options. Our meetings involve talking about how to improve the plant-based options on campus, sharing vegan snacks and recipes, watching documentaries, and discussing topics related to veganism.

Our goal is to create the ideal dining experience for students through food items offered on campus as well as the promotion of food safety and sustainability. Food opinions are dynamic to the student body and we work hard to keep up with healthy and sustainable food options.
