Broome County Recycling Information

Recycling is one of the most important things people can do to increase their sustainability. However, it isn't as straight forward as most people think. Further down this page there is more information about how recycling works. There are two main things to keep in mind when you go to recycle:

  2. Contamination is a huge problem in recycling. Remember to check the University's and Broome County's recycling guidelines.


Recycling Right New York is "an education and outreach effort informed by more than 100 recycling professionals from across New York State." The site has some great resources including information on how to recycle and why it is important, as well as an amazing Recyclopedia.

Consuming Green

One of the most sustainable practices is to decrease the amount of new items purchased. Fix broken items. Find new uses for no longer used items. Go without the latest and greatest. When it comes to buying new materials take where and how they are made into consideration. Below are some resources that may help.
