Grammar Help

Study Spanish: Offers pronunciation aides, grammar lessons, vocabulary excercises, and verb drills.  May of the features and resources are free, but Study Spanish does have additional services and lessons for those who sign-up for their memberships.  Subscription services are offered for both teachers and students.

Diccionario de la lengua española (Real Academia Española) the authoritative dictionary of the Spanish language.  

Larousse Bilingual Dictionaries - A dictionary of providing an extensive word base, conjugation table for every verb, cultural and historal notes, and idiomatic expressions.

Language Learning Resources

Defense Language Institute (Foreign Language Center): Language ResourcesThe DLIFLC is the primary foreign language training institution within the Department of Defense (DoD), conducts full-time foreign language resident training. 

The following resources provided by the Foreign Language Center will help you develop and enhance your foreign language abilities:


Basic Language and Culture Acquisition:

  • HeadStart2: Exposes users to more than 1,000 key terms and phrases.  Headstart2 consists of two units containing ten modules each.  Unit One (Sound and Script)  teaches the basics of Spanish in twenty interactive tasks.

Language Enhancement:

  • G.L.O.S.S: Developed for independent learners to provide them with the learning/teaching tools for improving their foreign language skills.  GLOSS currently offers 2850 reading (RC) and listening (LC) lessons in 24 languages! More lessons are added every month.
  • Accents Library:  The Accents Library is a handy collection of accent samples that vividly illustrate regional speech variations of standard language via sound recordings of the same excerpts read.

Assessment:

  • Online Diagnostic Assment (ODA) System:  Developed by the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Cener to help the foreign language learner, evaluate and manage their learning.  ODA identifies a learners needs in a foreign language, and provides them with individualized, relevant feedback. This feedback is based on a sampling of their abilities across a variety of levels, topics, and specific linguistic features.

Test Your Spanish - Use this tool to assess your proficiency level and point you to learning resources on BBC Languages and elsewhere on the web.  The included activities test your language skills in: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. 

FSI Language Courses – Foreign language courses developed by the US Government for the Foreign Service Institute.  This resource offers digitized textbooks and audio tapes.  The websites offers a wealth of resources that can be downloaded to your PC and transferred to other devices for continous exposure.
