Introduction

Discovering and using scholarship published by reputable publishers and presses ensures that you are reading and using the best research, by the top scholars, for your own work. Evaluating presses and publishers is not unlike determining if an article is scholarly. What are some clues?

Is a press affiliated with an educational or research institution? 

Do the authors of the monograph, or editors of an edited collection, have education/research credentials? What are their areas of expertise? What qualifies them to be editors or authors?

Does the press/publisher have an academic peer review process? 

Are authors required to cite others’ work?
