Databases
Information on private companies is difficult to collect. Unlike public companies, private enterprises are not required to release their financials or other company information. In addition to databases that list company reports, it may be necessary to look for newspaper, newswire, and journal articles.
- Gale Business: InsightsThe Companies section of the database covers both public and private companies.
- Nexis UniUse Get Company Info or, click on Company Dossier and then Create Company List. Another option is to click on Company Profiles and select the sources listed below that cover private companies.
- MarketLine AdvantageIf you know your company name, just type it in the search box. If looking for a list of private companies, click on the Browse by Company tab. When the results come up, use the filter to the left to select Company Attributes. Then choose Private under the Company Type. Records usually don't have much financial information, but will list often list deals and have a SWOT Analysis.
