Resources for the study of music.

FindIt! vs. the Library Catalog

The Library Catalog allows you to search all the print and electronic resources the Libraries hold.  For music, this includes all of the scores, CDs, LPs, DVDs, and books held by the Libraries.  You can also find journals and electronic resources; however, a Library Catalog search will not find specific articles (for example) whithin them.

Find It! allows you to search all the print and electronic resources, including articles, which the Libraries hold, as well as our digital collections and a mega-aggregated index of hundreds of millions of scholarly e-resources.

Use the Library Catalog for more specific searching and less search results.  Find It! is helpful if you are not sure where to start your search, or if you'd like to search multiple collections/disciplines simultaneously.  Once you have started a wide search in Find It! you can then narrow your results with the facets in the left column.

Information on how to find materials, either in Find It! or the Library Catalog, is provided throughout this LibGuide, based on format.

More Search Options

If BU Libraries don't own something that you need, you can use InterLibrary Loan to request it.  Or you can search WorldCat, the largest listing of books owned by libraries worldwide.  Items found in WorldCat can be interlibrary loaned.
