- Biodiversity Heritage LibraryTen major natural history museum libraries, botanical libraries, and research institutions have joined to form the Biodiversity Heritage Library Project. The group is digitizing the published literature of biodiversity held in their respective collections.

- IUCN Red ListThe IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources is an international organization) Red List of Threatened Species provides taxonomic, conservation status and distribution information on taxa that have been globally evaluated using the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria. This system is designed to determine the relative risk of extinction, and the main purpose of the IUCN Red List is to catalogue and highlight those taxa that are facing a higher risk of global extinction

- Society for Conservation BiologyAn international professional organization dedicated to promoting the scientific study of the phenomena that affect the maintenance, loss, and restoration of biological diversity.
- United Nations Environmental Programme - World Conservation Monitoring CentreAn international program for the synthesis, analysis and dissemination of global biodiversity knowledge, providing authoritative, strategic and timely information for conventions, countries, organizations and companies to use in the development and implementation of their policies and decisions. They report on such topics as Parks and Protected Areas, Global Biodiversity Atlases, Species Information, Critical Ecosystems, International Policy, and Emergency Response. They also maintain the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (aka CITES: http://www.cites.org/).
